To manage the water streams, we work according to established policy and work instructions that follow the permit regulations. We make adjustments if the factories exceed their water consumption. Improvement plans are shared and incorporated into the site’s annual environmental plan.
Waste policy
Our waste policy ensures that waste products are disposed of in a responsible manner and that laws and regulations are complied with. All employees in the factories are responsible for properly separating waste.
Reduction in residual waste
In 2022, Scharsterbrug started a project for better waste separation. By 2023, the waste project will be fully implemented. Separating and reducing waste will remain a theme that will be actively addressed in 2024, including through an internal audit on this theme. In addition, in early 2024, we will no longer provide plastic cups, replacing them with a more sustainable option.
Waste streams
In Gorinchem, we conducted another analysis to gain a better understanding of the composition of our residual waste. We identified the locations where residual waste is released. Separation is already taking place at several locations. However, the analysis showed that there is still room for improvement in terms of collection infrastructure and employee awareness. To collect and dispose of more waste streams separately, we improved the collection structure, installed an extra compactor and educated our employees. An 8% reduction has been made, by fully separating factory film (excluding LDPE and HDPE plastics) from residual waste and collecting the milk powder used in the lab separately as category 2 and thus separating it from residual waste.
